Stephen E. Sandherr, the chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America and Sean McGarvey, the President of North America’s Building Trades Unions is pleading with Government Officials to exempt construction work from the work shutdowns.

The construction industry is vital and essential to the nation’s infrastructure at all levels, and it should remain in operation as Sandherr and McGarvey urge. The two above mention that the construction industry is”…an invaluable economic service…critically important [to] energy and communication systems, roads and bridges, and social infrastructure, including police, fire, and healthcare facilities.”

“Construction workers’ unique skills are essential now and in the coming weeks to construct, maintain, and repair critical infrastructure, and to build temporary health facilities and retrofit and expand existing ones,” says Sandherr and McGarvey referring to this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Management is continuing to monitor and provide guidance on job site safety for those on the job. Sandherr and McGarvey urge that construction is an essential service and should not be shutdown during this time of pandemic.
